- Builder
Born in Scotland, Bill devoted his life to the role of volunteer executive and five pin bowing was the benefactor. His original input began in Western Canada before moving to Toronto in 1942. He quickly assumed the role of secretary for the Canadian Bowling Association and conducted their annual tournament from 1943-1950. He was secretary of the CBA for ten years and its president for one. That association bestowed life membership on Bill in 1949. Bill also used his CBA background to write the first constitution for the Ontario Bowlers Council which formed in 1959. In addition, Bill worked on the first rule book available to the public and was a charter member of the Canadian Bowling Congress. Bill had little time for any person who criticized a volunteers work without offering a solution, or who was unwilling to help. It was just this attitude that brought Bert Garside to the administrative side of bowling and also motivated Stan McGee, Red McQuaker and Bill Neal to become involved with our sport. Bill also contributed to the growth of junior bowling, bringing boy scouts and other youngsters to bowl at the old Riverdale Lanes as early as 1949. In all, Bill gave 50 years to five pin bowling, working in all capacities with countless organizations and thus earned Hall of Fame induction.
