John Merson has been active on the bowling scene since 1948. Born and educated in Toronto, John lives in Don Mills with his wife Grace and three children Mike, Steve and Anne.
As the chief representative of Brunswick in Canada, John has been a strong influence on the growth and development of bowling in the last quarter century. In his various responsibilities, he has traveled from coast to coast in Canada and has created interest and enthusiasm for the sport of bowling. In his younger days, John was an ardent bowler and enjoyed participating as a league member.
His career with Brunswick began as a salesman in 1948 and in 1952, he was promoted to the position of Sales Engineer and two years later, he became the Toronto Branch Manager for Brunswick and was such a success in this position, that he was transferred to Mexico for three years where he filled the positions of Vice-President and General Manager for Brunswick of Mexico. Bowling began to expand to Europe and the head office of Brunswick in Chicago reached out for John as Vice-President and General Manager for Europe. After setting up the foundations of the organization there, he returned to Canada in 1961 as National Accounts Manager.
With the organization of Brunswick’s Canadian operation in 1963, John operated under the title of Toronto Branch Manager. In 1967, his title became Vice-President of Sales for Canada with responsibility for Brunswick, Zebco and MacGregor. Under a further realignment in 1972, John’s responsibilities became directed to bowling in Canada.
During his career, John was active in the Canadian Junior Bowling Congress and served as its’ Treasurer. He has also been President of the Canadian Golf Manufacturer’s Association. Experienced and gracious, John Merson’s advice is sought by knowledgeable people in the bowling industry. His easy going manner and infectious smile establish a firm place in the minds and hearts of all who come in contact with him.
